DISTRICT—Environment Canada has issued a special weather alert for Sunday, March 29, 2026

Snow on Tuesday, with risk of freezing rain. Total snowfall amounts up to 15 cm possible. Reduced visibility in heavy snow with a risk  of freezing rain. This system will begin late Monday night  or Tuesday morning and continuing through Tuesday night.
A Colorado low is expected to spread snow, heavy at times, across the Region. The snow may also become mixed with freezing rain or ice pellets which would reduced snowfall accumulations. There remains considerable uncertainty regarding the track and some of the details of this system. At this point, it appears entirely possible that the snow could arrive in two waves with break for several hours on Tuesday. The axis of heaviest snowfall could also shift significantly should the track of this system change.

Roads and walkways may be difficult to navigate due to accumulating snow. Untreated roads may become icy and slippery.

DISTRICT — The Ontario Provincial Police North East Region have issued a statement saying Highway 11 from North Bay to Matheson opened for traffic on December 31.

However, there are still road closures in effect as work crews clear rural roads and highways across the North.

Highway 573 from Charlton to Highway 11 remains closed.

TEMISKAMING SHORES — The New Liskeard Cubs have a busy long weekend schedule ahead of them.

The Cubs have a three-game weekend coming up.

It begins with their next game against the U18 North Bay Trappers on Thursday, October 9 at Memorial Gardens in North Bay at 7:30 p.m.

On Friday, October 10 the Cubs play the U18 Sudbury Wolves at the Don Shepherdson Memorial Arena beginning at 8 p.m.

The Cubs are back at Memorial Gardens on Sunday, October 12 to play the U18 Trappers for an afternoon matchup beginning at 2:30 p.m.

LATCHFORD — In a press release, police say they have captured an armed and dangerous individual just south of Latchford, near Roosevelt Road on Sunday, October 5.

The suspect was wounded in the apprehension and taken to a nearby hospital. An OPP canine dog was also reported to have had minor injuries during the arrest.

The incident began on Friday, October 3 when police were alerted to an armed and dangerous person in the region.

Highway 11 was closed in both directions for an OPP Special Investigation Unit (SIU) investigation to take place, but reoponed to traffic on Monday, October 6.

#TemiskamingOPP is searching for Adam CRAIGEN, 34 years old, believed to be armed and dangerous, at large in the Latchford and Temagami North area where an emergency alert remains in effect.

The individual is described as medium build, approximately 180 cm (5’11”), and was last seen wearing a beige or grey Tilley-style hat, dark brown clothing, and carrying a military-style backpack.

If you see someone matching this description, do not approach and call 9-1-1 immediately. Any person with information regarding the whereabouts of the suspect should immediately contact 1-888-310-1122.

The emergency alert is still in effect, the public should continue sheltering in place and avoid the affected area around Roosevelt Road. If you are outdoors, seek shelter in a secure location.
